Dear Editor,

To all those brave activists who are campaigning up at the Third Energy Kirby Misperton fracking site; we all salute you!

We are offering practical help here in Harrogate. The Police have a duty to keep the legitimate access routes to this most unwanted development, so many of you will be arrested unfortunately and end up at one of the Police stations of Harrogate, Scarborough or York.

This may be well away from home, and away from the camp up outside Third Energy’s site,; should you want to return. If you get in touch with Frack Free Harrogate District or Harrogate and District Green Party we will do our best to give you a lift or overnight accommodation, once you are released from the Harro0gate Police Station; maybe in the early hours! We will be running a rota of those offering the above and please TEXT, not call, to get help. My mobile number is 07969152037. We will publish others at request. Maybe the local Police will help and allow the arrestees to remain in
the waiting room until picked up if at night?

Also needed is a list of local residents who can put people up until morning, as I am sure they will need a sleep after their ordeal.

Of course none of this would be happening if the North Yorkshire County Councillors and the local MP had listened to the 97% of those asked and had refused the application for this destructive energy company to set up a fracking site in our beautiful County! “

A GP from Pickering said “A recent paper from John Hopkins University in the USA showed that there is a marked increase in asthma for people who live near fracking wells. Nine months ago they also reported an association between fracking and premature births. I would urge people to treat industry and government claims that fracking is safe is at best unproven, at worst dangerously complacent. I certainly would not want to risk the health of my children or grandchildren by living close to a fracking well."

A father of two who lives within a mile of the well site at Kirby Misperton, said, "The latest scientific reports from the USA, which show that people living near fracking wells are more likely to develop asthma, is extremely worrying. I don't want my kids to grow up in the shadow of a fracking well."

A professor who is a climate change expert who lives in Oswaldkirk, near Helmsley, said, "The idea that fracking is some kind of 'green energy' is a myth. The latest report from the Committee on Climate Change confirms what scientists have known for some time, which is that it is practically impossible for widespread fracking to be compatible with our climate change commitments. In view of clear evidence that climate change is happening much faster than previously supposed, it is the height of irresponsibility to extract new sources of fossil fuels such as natural gas from fracking".

A fracking licence now covers nearly every town and village in Yorkshire. People need to wake up and smell the methane: fracking is now in everybody's back yard!"
